I bought myself a pair of braces (and a shirt, waistcoat and suit, the last being on lay-by) last week, so busted them out for this week’s Formal Friday. By the way, that’s my pocket, not a suspicious bulge in my pants. I was enjoying the drink but not THAT much!

~~but why you say tartan instead of kilt that’s like saying cotton instead of shirt~~

My understanding of ‘tartan’ is it’s a specific pattern i.e. unrelated to a particular item of clothing or fabric (although it was traditionally wool). In this image, the kilt has a tartan pattern on it, but tartan doesn’t mean the kilt itself. Demo just happened to be wearing a kilt instead of another item of clothing that was tartan.

So, remember Mars Bars, or Wagon Wheels, or White Knights (who eats them right), but they used to be massive. Freaking huge, and cost 89¢ (Australian). Now I go to my local supermarket and see tiny chocolate bars for $1.40 and I usually drift into a catatonic state. My mouth waters, but my pockets run dry. I am dumbfounded by the crap big companies try to sell us. It’s a contrast irony; the larger a company gets, the smaller their products become, or in other words, they give a shit less and less…

The fact is, things are never the right size. I sit on a tram, and the windowsill isn’t wide enough so my arm hurts, the geological timescale is too long for me to remember, Californication is only 30 minutes long, my wait on the tram is too long, movie tickets are too expensive, The Amazon Rainforest is too small and Two and a Half Men shouldn’t have a following this big.

Hmm. I’ve found as I’ve gotten older that anything I’d like for a present, I’d likely buy myself cos I have the funds. I always appreciate a bottle of some quality alcohol, but more recently, I think I’d also be grateful for a nice tie, tie-pin, cuff-links… the smaller items that go well with a tailored outfit. A lovely meal is also welcomed, especially in the company of friends.
